International Degree in Scissor Cutting
Growing up I had the opportunity to participate in an event, for children ages K-6th, called "Children's Institute," or CI for short. I first enjoyed it as one attending (I loved it!!!) and then later in my years (starting at the ripe old age of 14) as a teacher/assistant.
It was in that later period of time that I came to meet many who became great friends and also learned valuable skills. One skill that I arrived with was the art of scissoring. One skill that I came away from the CI's having greatly expanded my knowledge in said skill, was the art of scissoring. For I soon learned that there are many decisions that might be necessary when it comes to the art of scissoring. How thick is the paper, what kind of paper are you scissoring, the durability of the scissors (yes you can break them), how many pieces of paper can I cut at one time, would it be faster to cut a couple of pieces or cut them all at once...... Yes the art of scissoring can be quite difficult.
Perhaps one of the most fun times of the whole thing was when a number of teachers/assistants were staying at the same house because some were from out of the area. Then you would all come home at night and as a group put together the craft for the next day. It was a great time to talk, hang out, laugh and if the craft was long enough you would all stay up to the point where someone would ask that great question..."Whats the lamest joke you have ever heard?" Then you would all die laughing about some absurd joke that made no sense at all. Ah....the good 'ol days............(Avido lost in a dreamy haze)....................
Oh yes! Scissoring. These times (the ones late at night)were also where we worked on a very important part of the CI teaching process. The famous, International Degree in Scissor Cutting. This mythical degree was joke that became prominent among CI'ers because of all the scissoring that went on during the week. Oh the horrors....(shiver)......my hand is cramping just thinking about it.
No doubt some reader is asking, "and we get this story why...?" Well, I though that as my participation in CI's had ceased so had my opportunity to work on my degree. However, at work today I was given the task of tracing and cutting eighty-eight 4 1/2 in letters for a project. Lets just say a flood of memories came back and I have a few more hours toward my degree.
